Colin Cowherd: Best Rock Band Bracket

{ The Beatles are No. 1 overall }

Sports talk radio and ESPN personality Colin Cowherd is doing a NCAA Basketball March Madness style bracket competition with rock 'n' roll bands. Anyone with a basic knowledge of sports will know what all this bracket stuff is all about.

Previously he did Superheroes vs. Supervillains (Batman beat the Joker) and breakfast cereals (Cheerios/Honeynut Cheerios beat out Frosted Flakes). Both proved to be incredibly popular and this rock 'n' roll band bracket will be sure to generate even more response and debate (especially since people have more of an emotional connection to music than, say, a superhero or a breakfast cereal).

Cowherd and his staff picked the field of 64 teams and then they look towards the fans to vote on each match up. You can cast your votes here.

Now the field is missing a lot of bands but that's what happens when you try and distill decades of rock 'n' roll history into the top 64 bands. And I'd like to think that the knuckleheads that listen to Cowherd's show are a bit more cultured and intelligent (like myself!) but we'll see how it all pans out.

Pet Bear Sounds will be tracking the tournament so watch this space for my votes (in bold) and the results!

Champion

Not surprisingly, The Beatles beat out Led Zeppelin and was crowned the best rock band in the Cowherd Rock Band Bracket.

There is no shame in Led Zeppelin losing out to The Beatles. The Beatles are certainly one of the best (and most popular) rock bands in the world and they are certainly worthy of the crown.

Championship

The debate between The Rolling Stones and The Beatles (according to the Colin Cowherd demographic) will have to wait for another time.

Led Zeppelin beat out The Rolling Stones and The Beatles took down Aerosmith.

I'd have to imagine that The Beatles have more of a widespread following and will beat out Zeppelin.

Final Four

To see Aerosmith beat out Pink Floyd was a bit of a surprise but they did and they're the only non-number-one seed coming into the Final Four. But they're not going to stand a chance against The Beatles.

On the other side of the bracket is a battle between The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. Both very worthy bands but I have to think that The Rolling Stones will prevail in this match up and set up a classic Stones versus Beatles battle.

Round Four

The Elite Eight are here and when the dust settles on the last two rock 'n' roll bands we're probably going to see a classic Rolling Stones versus Beatles battle.

As for the latest round, I'm going with the higher seeds which will set up a battle between some heavy hitters in rock: The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Beatles.

If those bands go through to the next room, it's interesting to note that it will be a battle between four bands from England.

West: Seattle Region

1. The Rolling Stones
3. AC/DC

The Rolling Stones literally rolled through the tournament so far with wins over Blink 182, Motley Crue and Queen. AC/DC secured wins over Journey, Green Day, and Nirvana. Frankly, I was a bit surprised that AC/DC were able to beat Green Day and Nirvana.

AC/DC is certainly a worthy opponent to The Rolling Stones but I have a hard time believing that AC/DC can pull off a win over the Stones.

Midwest: Cleveland Region

1. Led Zeppelin
2. The Eagles

Led Zeppelin cruised by Nickelback, The Allman Brothers and Metallica. The Eagles reached the Elite Eight by soaring past Soundgarden, The Ramones, and The Doors. Nothing too surprising there.

I think Zeppelin can beat The Eagles but it's going to be a tough battle.

East: New York Region

4. Aerosmith
2. Pink Floyd

The lowest seed left in the tournament is Aerosmith who beat Boston, Bon Jovi, and - shockingly - upset U2 in the last round. Meanwhile, Pink Floyd worked their way by 311, The Grateful Dead, and The Who.

While I like Pink Floyd in this match up, I have a sneaking suspicion that Aerosmith can slip by the psychedelic rock giants. If Aerosmith can beat U2, they can certainly rock their way by Pink Floyd. I'm hoping that Pink Floyd can produce a win here, though.

Far East: London Region

1. The Beatles
3. Guns N' Roses

The Beatles are the number one overall seed and beat Creed, Def Leppard, and Pearl Jam. There was no way they're going to see an upset there. Guns N' Roses scored victories over Living Colour, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Van Halen.

But there is no way Guns N' Roses will be able to beat The Beatles. You can pencil pen in the Fab Four to move easily on to the Final Four.
