Happy Christmas From Pet Bear Sounds!

Oh, hi there. It has been a little while but Pet Bear Sounds is getting back in the swing of things soon.

Last Christmas (I gave you my heart. Ha! Couldn't resist.) I recorded a little EP of my take on some popular Christmas tunes along with one original called "December Song."

{ "Jingle Bell Rock" }

{ "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" }

{ "December Song" }

{ "I'll Be Home For Christmas" }

I'm pretty proud of these songs and it was nice hallmark of 2009 and I'm happy to say that I don't cringe when I listen to these songs in 2010. I'm especially pleased with the way that my original song turned out. Also, no cringing on subsequent listens.

I hope everyone enjoys these original tunes.

As for Christmas songs in general, I pretty much avoid them as much as possible and until the last possible moment. Then I consume enough Christmas songs to kill an elephant (whatever that means) and then I'm pretty good until the following year.

What I've learned is that all the old Christmas songs sung by the great crooners like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin are the best. Ella Fitzgerald has some fantastic renditions of Christmas songs as well. Maybe once in a while you'll have a modern singer who churns out a great Christmas song (Mariah Carey) but otherwise forget it. Stick with the oldies. They are the goodies.

One exception to the rule is "Last Christmas" by Wham!

{ Wham! - "Last Christmas" }

Okay, okay. So the song is pretty much a huge block of cheese. But it's a fantastic song. Fantastic chorus, nostalgic melody, wistful lyrics.

It's pretty much a sad song. And, y'know what? A lot of the best Christmas songs are sad.

Anyway, that's that. Happy Christmas everyone and I'll leave you with this Christmas classic by John Lennon.

{ Forget to get a gift? This is a good one. }
